Solanco Girls Soccer Seeks That Extra Goal to Win More Games

Even just one goal a game can turn a losing record into a winning one, Solanco assistant girls soccer coach Remington Wright says.

That’s what he and others directing the Solanco program are hoping for in 2025. Says Wright (below right), “I don’t see why (a winning record) it's not a possibility – and we have three capable girls sitting right here.”

He nods his head in the direction of three returning leaders for the Golden Mules, seniors Maddie Wenger (top photo) and Ashley Mosteller (below left) and junior Avery Janssen (below center).

Of last year’s 3-14-1 record, Wenger, who has played midfield, thinks it will give her team incentive.

“I think it will make us work harder as a team and push ourselves that much harder to try and beat those teams we lost to by one goal, two goals,” she says. “A lot of the girls are pushing a lot harder this year.”

Wright can remember some games last year – one against Lampeter-Strasburg stands out to him – where the team was playing well and in the lead but fell apart and couldn't hold on.

“We beat teams that made it to districts, but unfortunately, we weren’t able to make it ourselves," he recalls. "But we were competing every day with them, so I don’t see why it’ll be any different this year.”

And he has high hopes for Wenger, Mosteller and Janssen being the leaders for the younger players on the team, he says.
