Johnny Hauck "Mr Boxing of Lancaster". He was a welterweight/middleweight boxer many years ago, and might have done a good job as a boxer, but he quit the ring when he was on the verge of making it big. He fought 15 times professional with 14 wins and one draw. He boxed between the years 1915 and 1919. He was so impressive as a boxer that Jack Kearns, who managed Jack Dempsey, was trying to sign Johnny to a contract. He also served as a boxing referee, judge, second, trainer, coach and promoter before devoting a major portion of his time to collecting boxing history and becoming possibly the top historian in the country. He played football in the early 20's with the St. Joe Catholic Club, and in the 30's established a boxing program at St. joe's. In 1956, Hauck made the arrangements for Mrs. Hessie Donahue, than 83 to appear on the Gary Moore's television show "I've got a Secret; Her secret? She had knocked out the great John Sullivan in 1893.
