Dave Shank former boxer, a midget league baseball manager and retired city police officer, Dave rose to headlines through his boxing ability. While in the Navy in 1922 he won the middleweight championship of the Navy. He also while in the Navy fought a four round exhibit against Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey. When he was done b0xing he spent many years teaching young men the fine art of boxing. After boxing faded out both on the amateur and professional level Shank turned to baseball. Dave was one of the pioneers to the police athletic league, which sponsored midget and midget-midget baseball teams, and one of the leaders who induced Armstrong Cork Company to donate the grounds for the diamonds. He coached the Hager Bluer Jays midget team to the Lancaster New Era championship.
